TRAJECTORIES: THE INFLUENCE OF UNBUILT WORK
ISSUE 01 / OMA & HDM
Category—Graphic Design
Trajectories juxtaposes two architectural practices and examines how, and to what extent, their unbuilt work influences later built work. Issue 01 features the offices of OMA and Herzog de Meuron and draws from competition archives in which both firms participated analysing and cross-referencing submitted project descriptions; revealing and hightlighting manifestations of the unbuilt within the built. The publication organizes the archive in two sections; competition entries and built projects, ordering them chronologically. Herzog de Meuron is presented on the left, OMA on the right. Denoted tabs link unbuilt projects to corresponding built projects in which similar concepts or operations appear and selected quotes from the firms’ project descriptions are presented for each project page. Built project pages also feature notes explaining their correlation to the unbuilt.
